BIPLA Sixth Annual Symposium,

by Valarie Rosen, Cabot Corporation, BIPLA President-Elect

The Boston Intellectual Property Law Association held its 6th Annual Symposium on April 13-14, 2026. The symposium was hosted at the WilmerHale offices in Boston. With nearly 100 attendees and 7 sponsor organizations, this year’s symposium brought together intellectual property professionals from a variety of practice areas for two stimulating days of panel discussions and networking. Day one started with a presentation by Liz Jackson, Acting Director of the USPTO Northeast Regional Outreach Office, on trademark updates from the USPTO.

Day one of the symposium also featured eight interactive panel sessions, which provided a variety of choices for attendees with different backgrounds and interests. The discussions covered a range of substantive topics including recent changes to inter partes review and reexamination practice, the intersection of antitrust and artificial intelligence, celebrity tattoos and copyright law, licensing, and AI-related topics influencing both US and international patent practice.  The day ended with a networking reception, which provided opportunities for additional discussion and building new connections.

Day two of the symposium included four more panel sessions, including updates on practice in China, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico,  the influence of immigration policy on the IP landscape, and legal ethics.  At the end of the day, participants came together for a fireside chat on the Unified Patent Court and a discussion of Hatch-Waxman litigation. We look forward to seeing you for next years Symposium in late April 2027! Please be on the lookout for further information as the event is finalized and registration is opened.
